The Neighborhood of Shaw.

Shaw, Washington DCWelcome to the thriving neighborhood of Shaw, centrally located north of downtown and just a few blocks off the U Street and 14th Street corridors. The neighborhood is served by the Shaw-Howard University Metro station (green/yellow lines) as well as the Mount Vernon Square Metro station.

Shaw has a wonderful history, beautiful buildings and some of the most dedicated residents in the city creating a true sense of community with a very strong residential character where neighbors actually know one another. It is for this reason Shaw has a very strong online presence and was even recognized as being one of the ‘bloggiest’ neighborhoods in the country.

Shaw is currently undergoing a massive renaissance with countless developments but most notably the CityMarket at O which will revitalize the historic O Street Market, which was constructed in 1881, by restoring it and incorporating it in to a new 71,000-square foot Giant Food Store. The new store will combine the charm of the 19th Century with 21st Century efficiency to create one of Washington’s largest food stores and the East Coast’s most unique and interesting shopping experiences. The new Giant will open by November 2013, followed quickly by the apartments and hotel and soon thereafter followed by the condominiums and senior housing.

With the exception of a few large developments, most of the revitalization in Shaw is happening on a smaller scale with locally owned retail and restaurants popping up throughout the neighborhood. The homes feature everything from meticulously renovated historic properties to contemporary new homes featuring the latest green construction techniques adding to the eclectic charm of the neighborhood as if the tree lined streets were not enough.
